We at Memorial Hermann Credit Union recognize our legal responsibility for protecting the privacy of certain personal information about you. When you entrust us with your “nonpublic personal information”, we will always take steps to protect your privacy. (“Nonpublic personal information” means information about you that we collect in connection with providing a financial product or service to you. “Nonpublic personal information” does not include information that is available from public sources such as telephone directories or government records)

Types of Information We Collect

We collect “nonpublic personal information” about you from the following sources:

  1. Information we receive from you on applications or other forms, such as income, assets, liabilities and social security number;
  2. Information about your transactions with us or others;
  3. Information we receive from outside sources such as your employment history, property insurance coverage and banking relationships; and
  4. Information we receive from consumer reporting agencies about your credit history.

Our Use of Information Collected

Memorial Hermann Credit Union does not provide or disclose your “nonpublic personal information” to anyone or any company except as permitted or required by law. We may, however, in our regular course of business, provide such information to affiliates or non-affiliated third parties which perform designated administrative and servicing functions for us but again, only as permitted by law. Examples of such services may include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Services for processing member applications, loans, transactions, online bill payments;
  2. Marketing efforts for direct mailings;
  3. Filing of public records such as mortgages, deed of trusts, vehicle titles;
  4. Serving your accounts;
  5. Responding to a subpoena or court order requesting information; or
  6. Providing you with requested services such as an automatic bank draft

Any companies we employ for any services for your account must provide us with a written agreement assuring us that they maintain strict confidentiality policies. They must also agree that they will not use your “nonpublic personal information” for any unauthorized purpose or share it with anyone else.

Our Confidentiality and Security Practices

We restrict access to “nonpublic personal information” about you to our employees or service providers who need to know that information to provide products or service to you. We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations to guard your “nonpublic personal information”.

We do not disclose “nonpublic personal information” about former members, except as permitted by law.

What Is Spyware?

Spyware are programs that run undetected on personal computers and can allow thieves remote access to your system or information.  Unrecognize or unsolicited e-mails sometimes contain links or attachments that install harmful programs (like spyware) on your computer when you click on them.  Never provide personal sensitive information to anyone soliciting it, even if they claim to be from the credit union.  If in doubt contact the credit union at (713)778-4400. 

How to Recognize Spyware

  • E-mail attachments or Internet downloads that end with ".exe" or ".dll".
  • Lots of pop–up ads appearing on your computer.
  • An unauthorized change to your browsers Home Page 
  • Sluggish or slow performance when browsing online, opening programs, saving files, and starting and stoping your PC.
  • Toolbars that appear on your browser

 


How to Prevent Spyware

  • Keep your operating system and Internet browsers up to date (use automatic update features if available)
  • Maintain anti–virus and anti–spyware software keep them up–to–date.
  • Download software only from sites you know and trust.
  • Avoid unsolicited e–mails. Delete them immediately. These can expose your computer to spyware.
  • Install a firewall (enable Microsoft XP built-in firewall) to block unauthorized users from accessing your computer.
